Description: As you can probably tell, I thought Metal Gear Solid 3: Operation Snake Eater was a fantastic game with great bosses. The End was definitely my favorite out of all of them, quite possibly one of my favorite bosses ever. The End is the Father of Modern Sniping and lives up to that title. He rarely misses and possess many abilities that sniper's need. He is an expert at finding suitable cover, can blend into his environment, can lower his body temperature to blend with his surroundings, has a parrot to act as a spotter for him and has the power to photosynthesize. I'm not joking about that last part, when his stamina starts to decrease, he will sometimes stand in the sunlight and absorb it, restoring it. The downside to that however, is that you can clearly hear him doing so, thus making him vulnerable (interesting note: if you can do a successful hold-up on The End, you can obtain his camouflage which not only can get you to 100% Camo in wooded environments, but in sun-lit areas it can restore your stamina over time). The thing I love about this fight is how many mechanics can be used in it. To defeat him, you can either attempt a counter-sniper act with the SVD or attempt to find and sneak up behind him. This fight spans a total of three areas, a plateau, a river and a forest, each one filled with areas for him to ambush you in. The game has and suggests that you make use of absolutely everything you have to fight him. Your directional mic can be used to actually track his breathing, you can use your sonar, anti personnel detector etc. to attempt to locate him and you can even use the thermal goggles not only to see where he's hiding, but to track his footprints, which can greatly simplify the battle. You can kill or capture his parrot if you see it which can make it harder for him to spot you but I suggest capturing it alive as The End becomes angered and aggressive if you kill it. No matter what however, The End cannot kill you since he uses tranquilizers. In fact, if you just simply eat after getting shot you'll be fine. If he somehow manages to take you down, he'll simply take you to the prison where you were at before fighting the Fear allowing you to return and try again. Eating is a priority to this fight since if you aren't as cautious or experienced in the fight your stamina is the only real problem. What some people aren't aware of though that you don't even need to fight The End. When he first appears outside the warehouse at the swamp along with The Boss, The Fear and Volgin, before the guards wheel his chair inside, provided you obtained the SVD earlier, you can actually kill him right there (watch out though, after he dies, he explodes, launching debris at you). Doing this however is unadvisable as you miss out on a fun fight and instead have to fight an ocelot unit. Another thing many people probably didn't know about is if you save and either wait a week or set the internal clock of your console forward a week, he dies of old age. You kind of have to expect this since PARAMEDIC does warn you something bad might happen if you save and don't come back soon so it is foreshadowed but also because this guy is RIDICULOUSLY old (be careful using this tactic because if you only wait 3 or 4 days, he ambushes you and takes you to the prison immediately. The End is a really fun boss, being highly technical and requiring you to make use of the skills that the game tries to emphasize. To defeat him, all you need is a little finesse and a lot of patience.
