Dead Space 1
Evil Factor: Helps the Necromorphs, creates the first Hunter, murders many for 'divinity', inhibits travel through the Ishimura, planned on bringing the Necromorphs back to Earth
Insanity Factor: Avoid getting seen by him at all costs, illogical, worships the Necromorphs as angels
Powers: The ability to travel through the Ishimura without getting attacked once - at least until he allowed himself to be killed and transformed
Occupation: Doctor, Worshipper of the Necromorphs, Unitoligist
Description: One of the last few survivors of the Ishimura crew to die, Dr. Mercer is the only living crewman who tries to kill Isaac in his journey through hell. For whatever reason, Dr. Mercer and the church of Unitology see the Necromorphs as angels and worships them as the evolution of mankind. If he had survived the whole ordeal and was arrested by law enforcement, he would probably be sued for malpractice, but would probably get off the hook for his crimes since he is a devout follower to the Church of Unitology - an absurd and corrupt religion that has devout followers within the government who probably would support his cause like most of the other cultists would, however this is all theoretical and never happened since he died on the Ishimura. He allowed an Infector to kill him so that he could become a 'divine entity', a common enemy called a Slasher and to add insult to injury, you can actually prevent his infection by killing the Infector. At one point this maniac sends his pet, the first Hunter in the series to kill you which will proceed to hunt you down through many different areas and is virtually unkillable thanks to its limb regeneration ability - fortunately the Hunter is allergic to fire and is finally killed by a rocket engine. To me, Mercer is the most insane villain in the Dead Space series, above Tideman, Kendra, and possibly the equivalent to that nerd/douchebag Danik. Tragically, Jacob Temple, the possible equivalent to Isaac in survival who leaves audio logs throughout the ship, finally has his luck run out when Dr. Mercer found him. You eventually find Mercer killing Temple and his girlfriend by shoving some kind of nail through their heads in order to make the infection easier. In the end, Mercer is a complete and utter bastard and didn't deserve to become 'divine' which is exactly why I kill the Infector quickly, and he is also one of the reasons why many people died on the Ishimura. He planned to bring the infection back to earth which is why Dr. Kyne, his superior sabotaged the ship. Mercer and all Unitologists are idiots, believing that necromorphs and their creators, the markers, are holy simply because some fruit cake from a few hundred years ago said they were. He is perhaps the worst villain of them all through the Dead Space series, rivaling Danik from Dead Space 3.
